Through the Gate, Gumley by Neil Cawthorne
Neil Cawthorne was born in Leicester, England in 1936. A 20th Century equestrian painter who did not begin painting seriously until' in his late twenties, a period in his life when he was hunting with the Quorn and Fernie Hunts, a subject that constituted much of his early work. In 1979 Neil became one of the founding fathers of the Society of Equestrian Artists (SEA), the equivalent to the Royal Academy in terms of equestrian art. Over the years Neil won many prizes for his work including the President’s Medal at the annual exhibition of the SEA at Christie’s.
Neil’s paintings can be found in the private collections of racing’s ‘great and good’ including HRH the Prince of Wales, Paul Mellon, Lord Vestey, the Duke of Beaufort and Lord Harrington.
